Again, we don’t usually announce prices before the sale, but since there are some extremely valuable and rare items at this one, we decided to give buyers a chance to see a few beginning prices. These prices are high, but they are actually well within, and quite often lower than, the market value for these highly coveted and rare items. So let’s get to it.
First up, we got Stickley! The real deal, and we got it big!
A set of six Mission style oak dining chairs with leather seats.
Purchased new ~20 years ago, in overall excellent condition (a couple minor scuffs to the wood here and there). Two captain chairs with armrests, and four matching side chairs.
You don’t see many of these chairs that have the spindles on the base as well as the backs, but the last picture has a screenshot of a set with table that sold for $9500. And single chairs might regularly sell for $1000 each.
We are starting this set of 6 at $3800
Stickley Revolving Bookcase
Very good condition, nice bright finish. Again, you don’t see these for sale too often. We found a two-tired Oak one that sold for $1495 in 2019. This is three levels, and I believe it is Cherry, which has an even better look than the oak imo. Labeled with the seal.
This starts at $1500
Stickley Glass Door Commemorative Bookcase
This was limited issue production in 2008 to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of Gustav Stickley’s birth. Again, hard to find actual prices, here is one listed on eBay for $4295.
We are starting ours at $2800
Stickley Mission Sofa
Excellent condition. This is also Cherry, with Prairie Side Panels. Upholstered seats and back cushions.
Starting Price $1600
There are other Stickley pieces also, including an oak armchair, a walnut & cherry end table with drawer, and a wooden box/stool. All priced approximately in line with these (which means high, but below actual market level).
Next, we have a…
Rosewood Circular Dining Table
This is one of the best pieces in the house! Maker and year unknown and the edges have some nicks and the surface has a little wear from use, but the base and table top design are incredible. You likely won’t find something like it anywhere else. It’s 5 feet in diameter.
Starting price $2000
Here is a big one!
Herman Miller Eames Lounge Chair
Wow! This is a classic of mid century modern design and ultimate comfort. It’s the genuine thing, made in 2004. These seriously sell for $7000+ used. The underside of the ottoman and the back of the chair have a few scuffs to the walnut shell, unseen when the chair is in its normal position. Leather is in excellent condition. SUPER COLLECTIBLE AND SURE TO HOLD ITS VALUE!
Starting price $4800
After Demetre Chiparus Bronze Sculpture
This piece is amazing! The closest sold price we could find is this very similar piece which sold for $14,000 and it had some damage. This has no visible flaws at all. It’s about 2 feet in height.
STARTING PRICE $6500
Erte Bronze Sculpture
This one is a bit more common, but no less spectacular. it was a signed limited production of 500 made in 1986. one sold for $3750 in 2013. It was numbered #340/500, ours is #56 (usually collectors prefer lower numbers in limited edition items). So less than half of that…
Starting Price: $1800
Large Bronze Sculpture of Artemis
It looks like Artemis anyway. She’s beautiful. 4 feet tall. What a piece this would be in the right setting! Might have a small break on the tip of her helmet adornment (barely noticeable, might not even be a break). Another bargain starting price!
ANOTHER BEGINNING AT $1800
Copeland Chests of Drawers
5-Drawer Bureau and 7-Drawer Lingerie Chest
Just google these. Copeland. Beautiful MCM cherry. They retail for $2300+ each.
Each begin at $800 here
EKORNES BLACK LEATHER RECLINING LOVESEAT
Another great mid-century modern piece in outstanding condition. These again retail for over $2500.
STARTING PRICE $800
These items can be purchased at these prices on a first-come basis in person beginning Friday at noon. They are also eligible for bidding. See the Pricing & Bidding FAQ for more explanation.
These are not the only high-priced items at the sale. But they should give you an idea of the range you can expect to see on the other items. We tried to stay below the market value that we could find across the board. And I’m sure we underpriced some real treasures, so there are bargains to be had. And remember to bid on things, who knows you might get lucky! Thanks for looking!
